چکیده

The presence of a strong multiplicative noise known as speckle complicates edge detection in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images and makes usual edge detectors inefficient. However, speckle is very well modelled statistically, and we here use this property to develop two non-linear multiresolution edge detectors for SAR images. A normalized ratio of local averages on opposite sides of the central pixel is computed in different directions and on different resolution levels for every pixel position. The pixelwise maximum or mean value over all scales yields an edge strength map, from which the edges are finally extracted. The difference between our approach and wavelet-based edge detection is briefly discussed, some statistical properties are examined, and the improvement compared to edge detectors operating on one single scale is shown on simulated SAR data.

Extended ratio edge detector for despeckled SAR image evaluation

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images due to the usage of coherent imaging systems are affected by speckle. So lots of despeckling filters have been introduced up to now to suppress the speckle. Hence, objective and subjective evaluation of the denoised SAR images becomes a necessity. Thereby lots of objective evaluating estimators are introduced to evaluate the performance of despeckling filte...

Contourlet-Based Edge Extraction for Image Registration

Image registration is a crucial step in most image processing tasks for which the final result is achieved from a combination of various resources. In general, the majority of registration methods consist of the following four steps: feature extraction, feature matching, transform modeling, and finally image resampling. As the accuracy of a registration process is highly dependent to the fe...

Local Isotropy Indicator for SAR Image Filtering: Application to Envisat/ASAR Images of the Doñana Wetland (November 2014)

This paper explores a geometrical and computationally simple operator, named Ds, for local isotropy assessment on SAR images. It is assumed that isotropic intensity distributions in natural areas, either textured or nontextured, correspond to a single cover class. Ds is used to measure isotropy in processing neighborhoods and decide if they can be considered as belonging to a unique cover class...

Diierent Approaches to Multiedge Detection in Sar Images

Edge detection is a fundamental issue in image analysis. The presence of speckle, which can be modelled as a strong multiplicative noise, complicates edge detection in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images. Several statistical edge detectors have been developed speciically for such images, based on the hypothesis that only one step edge is present in the analyzing window. We here concentrate on...

SAR-PC: Edge Detection in SAR Images via an Advanced Phase Congruency Model

Edge detection in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images has been a challenging task due to the speckle noise. Ratio-based edge detectors are robust operators for SAR images that provide constant false alarm rates, but they are only optimal for step edges. Edge detectors developed by the phase congruency model provide the identification of different types of edge features, but they suffer from s...
